Feliz El Dia Del Taco! Happy National Taco Day!

feliz el dia del taco - happy national taco day

Being a taco addict, it is not surprising that I got very much excited about today’s El Dia Del Taco. It has been celebrated in Mexico for the last 19 years exactly on the 31st March.

It’s breakfast time here in Tbilisi, Georgia, and I’d be heading to my Fiesta fairly soon (we open at 1 pm – see About page for more about me) as today is our popular Taco Tuesday and a National Taco Day all in one.

So if you had any excuse or were waiting for a sign to pop into your favourite taqueria or Mexican restaurant, it couldn’t be more obvious.

For me, tacos represent both joy, variety and craft (tortillas, salsas, and respectfully cooked proteins). What’s more, they can be done in a way that is most beneficial for our nutrition.

I started learning 5 years ago, and Fiesta was created almost three years ago. And I launched this Mexican food blog just 10 months ago to share my knowledge, but also to learn along the way (as there are still many things to be discovered and new creations to be made).

Hence, on this Day of a Taco, I’d like to share my articles and guides. I hope that you will find them helpful and, what’s more, inspiring.

Taco Guides, Recipes and Tips

Start by learning what a taco is from my comprehensive guide here.

Real tacos start with proper tortillas – that’s my ultimate belief. Here is how to make your tortillas at home, and how differently coloured corn affects tortillas’ nutrition and flavour.

Masa is a cornerstone of tortillas. Here is my detailed guide on Masa: Mexican traditions and modern nutrition powerhouse.

Learn more about Mexican cooking from the most renowned masters. Here are my top Mexican cookbooks, with reviews and recommendations. And if you are a mostly plant-based eater, here are my top 3 plant-based Mexican cookbooks.

After learning about the craft, let’s buy some gear and the most needed ingredients. Here are my top recommendations on the essential equipment for Mexican cooking.

Taco essentials: proteins and salsas

Here is my post about Plenty of tacos: check out my favourite flexitarian protein fillings.

Plant-based tacos should not feel like an afterthought. Here is my flavour matrix and how to prepare veggie tacos so it eats like a night out. Want some examples of how it works? Here are my tofu tacos, and my 7 best vegan tacos.

Mexi-terranean: I believe Mexican food deserves a brand uplift (here is more about the brand of a cuisine). So Mexi-terranean is a boldly flavoured Mexican with elegant and healthy Mediterranean fusion. Get inspired by my fish tacos here.

For all the various tacos mentioned here (and more on my blog), here is my guide on how to cook delicious salsas and sauces at home. Please take note of the chipotle paste. I have it in my fridge at all times for various recipes, not just tacos.

Part of my journey here is to share some know-how about cooking Mexican food far away from Mexico. It’s a challenge sometimes, but if you want to eat delicious tacos, you’ll find the way!

Being a WSET Diploma holder, I couldn’t resist making a Tacos and Wine pairing guide.

Many people still ask me, a Ukrainian who lived a long time in the UK and now in Georgia… And now a Mexican restaurant owner? Well, here is the story of creating Fiesta.

mas tacos, menos drama, vamos a la fiesta!

Plenty more to come, but here you go for now – fully equipped to celebrate El Dia Del Taco today! Buen Provecho!
